    What is this cable?

This is one of the first products we ever stocked at Lampfix.  It is simple to use once you know how - see the video above. This is the most popular cable we use for bespoke pendants.

I can tell you the good things, the bad things and show you how to use it.

By reading this article you learn if this will suit your application.
Used on table lamps, floor lamps and pendant lights, this cable has 3 individual cores.

Each core has 24 copper strands, each of 0.2mm diameter, giving a total cross-sectional area of 0.75mm².

Each core also has a coloured PVC double insulation. (Brown for Live, Blue for Neutral, Green/Yellow for Earth).

The cores are then braided and then twisted together.

This range offers a range of metallic tones to choose from.

It carries up to 6A (1440 Watts or 1.44 kW at 240 Volts).

0.75mm flex is the industry standard for new pendants, table and floor lamps.

If you are rewiring an antique and the cable holes are narrow, I recommend using 3 core 0.5mm instead.  While it is not industry standard, it is thinner, can take up to to 720 Watts at 240 Volts and is more flexible.  This is legal because antiques are not new to the market.

    Pros and Cons

Why buy Lampfix Twisted Braided Cable? The Pros...

    1. UK MADE

    • Our textile braided flexible cables in PVC/PVC have been manufactured in the UK for over 25 years.

    2. DOUBLE INSULATED

    • The cores are double insulated PVC, the secondary layer being a transparent reinforcing protection.
    • Beware of cheaper, single insulated, non-compliant offerings widely available online.

    3. COMPLIANT

    • The CE insulated cores comply with :
      • The low voltage directive 2014/35/UE, also compliant with the relevant BS/EN standards in our technical datasheet.

    4. HIGH TEMPERATURE RATING

    • The temperature rating is 90Deg. C. (normal PVC flexible cables operate at a maximum of 70Deg.C.)

    Cons

    • This size doesn't always work with antiques
    • not as easy to prepare, connect or clean as plastic cable
    • Expensive compared to plastic cable

    How to use this cable

Watch the video on the picture slider above showing how to use this type of cable.

We recommend you are competent at electrics to do this. If in doubt you should consult an electrician.

What parts can I use with cable?

    This flex works on:

    - all our lampholders

    - all our ceiling roses.

Screw Cordgrip Plugs. (Because plugs with push-fit cordgrips don't always grip this cable enough).

What is this cable good for?

    in the following scenarios:

    • to upgrade existing cable
    • need it with other pendant light parts like the cable and lampholder
    • making table lamps

Here is an article where you can learn more about making your own pendant light.

What is this cable not good for?

    in the following scenarios:

    • to rewire an antique where cable passages are too narrow. You should select a 0.5mm version instead
