What happens when you need to add new outdoor lights to an installation that's been in place for over ten years?
This period property provides a useful example.
A Lighting Installation That Started in 2014
In 2014, Navigator Palaemon solid-brass bulkheads were installed around the rear patio and walkway of this period home.
The owner wanted practical outdoor lighting that suited the traditional character of the property.
The original fittings were supplied in raw brass, which naturally develops a patina as it ages outdoors.
Matching New Lights with Existing Brass
More than ten years later, following renovation work, the owner wanted to extend the original lighting scheme.
By this time, the existing raw-brass bulkheads had developed a lovely aged appearance.
Rather than introduce brand-new raw brass alongside the weathered fittings, antique brass was chosen for the additional lights.
The finishes aren't necessarily identical, but antique brass offers a useful option when adding to an existing installation that has already aged.
It's worth considering this when extending any outdoor lighting scheme. Brass changes naturally with exposure, and the appearance of older fittings can differ from newly supplied ones.
