On 3 November 2025, Quintex celebrated its 50th anniversary.
My father, Brian Smith, started Quintex on 3 November 1975, working from his home in Pinner, north-west London.
What began with communications equipment soon developed into electrical wholesaling. Over the years, the business built up a particular knowledge of unusual and hard-to-find products, helping customers with parts they couldn't easily obtain elsewhere.
My brother Laurie joined the business in 1998. In 2006, he helped launch Lampfix, bringing our family's electrical wholesaling experience into a specialist range of lighting components and repair parts. I followed into the business in 2008.
A great deal has changed over those 50 years. Products have come and gone, technology has moved on, and the way customers buy has changed enormously.
But one thing I've always appreciated is the relationships Dad and Laurie built with their customers. They knew their products, understood what people needed and did their best to help. Many of those relationships lasted for decades.
That's something I've wanted to carry forward.
Today, Lampfix is one of the brands within Quintex. We continue to specialise in unusual lighting parts, combining useful stock with practical product knowledge and people who can help customers find the right thing.
Fifty years is quite a milestone for a family business.
I'm grateful to Dad for starting it, to everyone who's helped build it, and to the customers and suppliers who've supported us along the way.
Here's to the next chapter.
