Made from high-speed steel, these taps have short, square-ended shanks and are used for both machine and hand tapping. Hand tapping requires a tap wrench to twist the tap into the material. The wrench is placed around the square part of the tap, allowing you to twist the tap with two hands, making it cut into the material. For an M10 x 1 tap, a 9 mm drill is required.
