    Applications / Guidance

Not for the faint hearted, but if you like Electronics, gimmicks and have an interest in producing interesting once off items read on....If not then choose a simple in line dimmer.

The end result of fitting this dimming module to the lead of your light fitting is that you are able to convert it into a touch lamp.  This means to switch on, switch off and dim the light you simply touch the body of the lamp.

So why so tricky?  First you need to connect the dimmer module to the flex going to your light fitting, no problem here a 3 core flex is fine.

Next you need to source a 4 core flex to run from the output of the module into your light fitting.  So Live, Neutral and Earth cables attach to your light fitting as in any other light, but the 4th wire needs to be attached to the body (or part of the lamp) that you wish to "touch" to operate. Normally this is the base.

Challenges you face using this product are as follows:-

    1) Check your 4 core cable will fit into the cable entry of the lamp.

    2) Ensure you can anchor the 4th wire (sensor cable) securely to the part of the light fitting you wish to use to operate it.  Need to check for electrical conduction too, sometimes a lacquer can prevent this.

    3) Then decide going back to the unit whether you want a "step control" function or continuous - i.e. read the instructions carefully!

Before starting any electrical work, always switch off at the mains.  If in doubt consult a competent electrician
